We bought this book in prep for a Kilimanjaro hike and safari to follow. We did quite an extensive search online and called a couple of travel agencies to look into packages for us. We wanted to make this as much of a cultural trip also, not just a U.S. company with U.S. guides telling us what they might happen to know about the place for an outrageous price. We also didn't want to get a company that is dirt cheap but doesn't have anyone that can tell you about the culture and history of Kili, the Serengeti, etc. I think the book gives you a good idea of what Africa, Tanzania and Kilimanjaro as well as the wildlife in the area is like. We have yet to take our trip, but from all the research we've done, this seems the most comprehensive, and is quite good if you are an information geek like I am. Otherwise, you can pick the parts out that you want and it is still a very good resource book for any small amount of information you might need. Fodor's Africa was horrible compared to this book. Don't get Fodors. Go to Barnes and Noble and review it quickly in the store and you will surely agree.
